The Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy’s annual conference was held Nov. 2-6, 2016, in San Francisco and featured three days of educational presentations on Wright’s late years and panel discussions covering preservation topics, tours of all of Wright’s Bay Area work including the never-before-toured Arthur Mathews House, and special events including a dinner for homeowners and staff and docents at public sites. For the third year in a row the conference sold out, with more than 220 people attending the general conference and more than 260 people attending the gala dinner at the Hilton San Francisco Financial District, during which the year’s Wright Spirit Awards were presented.
The Wright Spirit Award recipients were Peter Maunu and Irmi Maunu-Kocian, owners of the Lamberson House in Oskaloosa, Iowa; the Glencoe Historical Society of Glencoe, Illinois; Jeffrey Herr, curator of the newly restored Hollyhock House; William J. Schwarz, AIA, consulting architect and longtime champion for the Marin County Civic Center; and restoration architect and preservation advocate John G. Thorpe (posthumous).
Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to making this such a successful event to aid in the Conservancy’s efforts to preserve Wright’s work.
