John, did you take this photo? If so, excellent work. That is awesome, and thanks for sharing.

Agreed, the photo is really nice.

I can't say that I appreciate the design (perhaps it's the execution) as much, though...

Yes, I took it.
I risked my life by running across a busy road in the rain to get it.
Several locals also voiced their displeasure with the design.
I thought the rainbow would make it look better.
Not sure if the colors are the same as Wright's.
There is a great model of the Capitol in the Exhibit at the Art Museum.

While I agree that the colors may be a bit garish, I still like the overall design. And the photo is quite nice as well. Nice work, John C.

Having been to Phoenix a few weeks back, I was expecting the worst upon seeing the Spire. I was happily surprised at enjoying it very much - most especially being there at sunset.

I remember hearing somewhere that the Spire location - as built - was supposed to incorporate more of the AZ State Capitol designs. But for some economic reasons it ended up falling through - and what was left is the Spire and the surrounding park area.

John,
You excellent photo captures a phenomenon that I have noticed on several occasions, some quite dramatically. That is, the grey sky appears to be significantly lighter "inside" the rainbow than "outside."

Does anyone know the meteorological reason for this?

I am a trained weather spotter by hobby.
due to the sun rays hitting the rain particles thus the rainbow is brighter depending on the particles of rain that disperse the light, like a light hitting a prism

A secondary bow with reversed color sequence is faintly visible.
