The Christie perfs were removed at some point in the house history and the photos in this archive are the only evidence I have seen to show the original built perf design. G.N. found this reference for me in the Communications: Howe wrote Wright telling him "The present perorated board pattern for the Christie House is stupid. Would you send a sketch for another?"

Though difficult to read the photos on the web, this is a developed perf design and as it was designed during construction and presumably sent to Howe, it may have no remaining paper record. These photos are crucial.
I will contact the Heritage Auction House for better clarification but, needless to say I'm not a prospective buyer. Perhaps someone may be viewing these sheets before 4/10? If so please contact me on this thread.

You can get a pretty good look in one of the photos: http://historical.ha.com/common/view_image_only.php?img=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.ha.com%2Flf%3Fsource%3Durl%5Bfile%3Aimages%2Finetpub%2Fnewnames%2F300%2F7%2F5%2F3%2F1%2F7531290.jpg%5D%2Ccontinueonerror%5Btrue%5D%26source%3Durl%5Bfile%3Aimages%2Finetpub%2Fwebuse%2Fno_image_available.gif%5D%2Cif%5B('global.source.error')%5D%26sink%3Dpreservemd%5Btrue%5D

Alternatively, click on the first sample (blueprint with papers superimposed), then click on the interior photo. The exterior shot below it shows the perfs from the other side.

Here's some screen grabs of the perfs:

I saw Christie in 2002. There were no perfs at that time.

I'll have to look for my 1982-83 pictures and see if the perfs were present then. I wonder what became of them when they were removed? There would be a lot of them...did each sash have an interior and exterior board?

Can we assume that Howe knew that Wright himself didn't draw the perf design that Howe calls "stupid"? Or did he have that kind of relationship/liberty with the boss?

According to many conversations with Geiger, FLW was not fond of Jack. He was a useful apprentice, but the old man just didn't like him. I doubt Jack, who was intimidated by FLW, would have said such a thing if he had thought for a moment that FLW had designed the perfs.

Thanks all...Another cog in the wheels of my Taliesin perf assumptions.
Prairemod, your screen grab enlargements confirmed my suspicion:

The Christie House once sported the almost same perforated board design that was drawn on the plans of the MoMA Exhibition House Project.

Dan, I am anxious to hear about your 80s photos. To answer your question of the number of perfs:
judging from the MONO drawing two lantern clerestories had at least 22 2X4 perfs and some smaller corner perfs; perfs are marked on each elevation.

Does anyone know the detailed lineage of the House?

I'll send a worksheet to SDR to post for comparison of the perfs.

If you can get to

http://historical.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=6080&lotNo=34204&type=book6085-80-temaa032212

click on the first sample photo (blueprint with docs), then click again to enlarge it.

Alternatively, go to heritageauctions.com, enter wright christie in the search field, Search, then click on the sample.

The more informative of the photos is the one PrairieMod posted above.

Palli.
I'll try to dig up my Christie pics this evening.
In the mean time, I recalled that the Tarantino's (architects, owners of the Bachman-Wilson house) had done some work at Christie. On their website home page, click on "PRESERVATION", then "FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT", then "CHRISTIE HOUSE". Scroll through the pictures to pic 5 SANCTUM. There are perfs visible.

Their website: http://www.tarantinostudio.com/

It may be worth contacting the Tarantino's to ask about the Christie perf history and typology. I've never met them, but they have done a significant amount of good work for "the cause".
