Just saw the advertisement for the auction of the Emil Bach house and the adjoining property for March 8, 2005 by Inland Real Estate Auctions, Inc.
The ad in the 1/26/05 Chicago Tribune Business section reads;
Relocated Owner Directs Auction
Frank Lloyd Wright landmark property and adjacent development site.
An outstanding opportunity to purchase a unique Prairie Style home and/or the adjacent 45' x 150' site located one block from Lake Michigan.
The ad does not list any opening or minimum bids. The Inland Real Estate Auction website is www.inlandreauctions.com

| According to a reporter with the Tribune, minimum bid for the house is $750,000. |

| Will there be an open house of some sort so potential bidders can see the property before it goes to auction? |

I saw an ad today in the Chicago Tribune that says there will be an open house today 1PM to 3PM. Don't know if they are prequalifying or registering vistors to screen out FLLW fans from real potential buyers.

I toured the Bach House this afternoon during the auction registration and open house. They are not screening or pre-qualifying, but will ask you to fill out a registration form and liability waiver (in case you're injured on the property).
Two more inspection dates are scheduled:
Wednesday, February 16, 1:00-3:00 PM
Sunday, March 6, 1:00-3:00 PM
This is a rare opportunity to see a private residence not usually open to the public. The house is actually in much better condition than I expected, although many changes have been made over the years. Most, if not all, of the plaster has been replaced by drywall, but the original walnut trim is in beautiful condition. |
